A Journalism Research & Education Section (JRE) convida à submissão de trabalhos para suas sessões que acontecerão na conferência da IAMCR, de 15 a 19 de Julho de 2012 no Campus de Howard, na Universidade de KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) em Durban, África do Sul.
"Jornalismo uma ferramenta para o diálogo" não se limita a abordar a relação entre jornalismo e suas audiências, mas também relaciona-se à qualidade da conversação para a democracia.
Muitas obras enfatizam a perspectiva global para o Jornalismo e sua relação com a democracia, além de outras que enfatizam os diálogos entre Norte e Sul, mas pouca atenção tem sido dada à diversidade de diálogos Sul-Sul. Em todos esses casos, as posições adotadas são geralmente muito pessimistas ou muito otimistas sobre as possibilidades de diálogo, sem meio termo na maioria das vezes.
Os céticos mostram preocupação com o futuro global do Jornalismo. A concentração dos meios de comunicação e as políticas autoritárias de controle da mídia tornam o atual panorama repleto de constrangimentos para o Jornalismo, em face de seu papel como veículo de expressão do que é público e de cobrança da responsabilidade política. Entretanto, a pesquisa e o ensino de jornalismo não podem ser fechados nessas categorias distintas.
Através dos artigos com relatos de pesquisas, propostas de painéis e workshops mediados, a JRE Section pretende ajudar a trazer qualidade ao debate público entre seus membros, estimulando maior qualidade de diálogo nas esferas públicas entre Norte e Sul, bem como entre a diversidade do Sul.

A Journalism Research & Education Section está aberta para propostas de painéis, workshops e propostas de artigos de pesquisa. Muitas vezes as pesquisas em jornalismo enfatizam a divisão entre o (rico) norte Global e o (pobre) Sul global. Um menor número de pesquisas dedica-se a focar a diversidade dentro e entre as escolas de jornalismo e o currículo no Sul global.
Resumos devem ter entre 300 e 500 palavras, incluindo os objetivos da pesquisa, marco teórico e metodologia. Cada proposta deve incluir título, nome(s), afiliação, endereço institucional e e-mail institucional d(os/as) autor(es/as). Todas as submissões de resumos devem ser feitas centralmente através do OCS disponível em http://iamcr-ocs.org
A aceitação dos resumos serão comunicadas aos autores pelos responsáveis pela Seção ou Working Groups até 12 de março de 2012.
Em 12 de março de 2012 o registro na Conferência será aberto para os participantes.
Os que tiverem seus resumos aceitos devem submeter os artigos completos por meio da OCS da IAMCR até 10 de junho de 2012.
IAMCR aceita apresentações em inglês, francês e espanhol. Entretanto solicita-se, se possível, que os resumos sejam submetidos em inglês.

The Journalism Research & Education Section invites submissions for its open sessions at the IAMCR that will be held from July 15-19, 2012 at the Howard College Campus of the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa.
"Journalism as a tool for conversation" is not limited to conversations between journalists and their prospective audiences, but also related to high quality conversation for democracy.
Many writings address the global prospects for journalism to serve democracy and conversation between the north and south, but less attention has been given to the diversity of the south-south conversations. However, positions are usually too optimistic or too pessimistic with no middle grounds most of the time.
Sceptics show concern about the global future of journalism. From media concentration to authoritarian media policies that make the current media landscape full of constrains facing the role of journalism as a vehicle for public expression and political accountability. However, journalism research and education cannot be boxed in these distinct categories.
Through the research papers, panel proposal and workshops moderated, the JRE section can help convene quality public conversations among its members to stimulate further quality dialogues in the public spheres between the north and south, as well as between the diverse souths.
The Journalism Research & Education Section thus invites submission within the general theme of 'South-North Conversations', by raising a main question: "What can we expect of Journalism research and education in addressing such conversations (North-South) or (South/South)?" through the lens of the five JRE themes:
First Themes: International Collaborative Research in Journalism Research: New Challenges and Emergent Perspectives
Second Theme: Innovations in Journalism
Third Theme: The Professional Journalism
Fourth Theme: Methods for Quantifying Professional Journalism
Fifth Theme: Generic Studies of Journalism
The Journalism Research & Education Section is opened for panel proposals, workshop sessions and research papers proposals.
Many times journalism research highlights the division between the (rich) global North and the (poor) global South. Less research and focus is given to the diversity within and among journalism schools and curricula of the global South.
Abstracts should range between 300 and 500 words in lengthincluding the research objectives, theoretical framework and methodology. Each proposal must include title, name(s), affiliation, institutional address and email addresses of the author(s). All abstract submissions must be made centrally via the OCS at http://iamcr-ocs.org
It is expected that for the most part, only one (1) abstract will be accepted per person in the research paper proposals in the JRE section Program. But the author could also submit a panel proposal. The JRE section encourages its members to take part in their moderation and chairing sessions so please let us know, if you are interested.
The deadlines are as follows:
The deadline for submission of abstracts is February 14, 2012. Please note that this deadline will not be extended.
The OCS system at http://iamcr-ocs.org will open on December 1, 2011, and will close on February 14, 2012.
Decisions on acceptance of abstracts will be communicated to individual applicants by their Section or Working Group Head no later than March 12, 2012.
On the same day, March 12, 2012, conference registration will open for bookings by participants.
For those whose abstracts are accepted, full conference papers are to be submitted via the IAMCR OCS by June 10, 2011.
