A Call for paper: Special Edition of Mass Communication and Society

THE COMMUNITY STRUCTURE MODEL: INNOVATIONS IN EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF SOCIETY ON MEDIA
Guest Editor John C. Pollock
The community structure research model is valuable because it explores media and journalists from an unusual perspective. Instead of the more standard paradigm, examining the impact of media on society, this approach explores the impact of society on media. In modern communication theory, Robert Park at the University of Chicago in the early twentieth century, concerned about integrating waves of new immigrants into US society, admonished the incipient communication field to look not only at the impact of media on public opinion, but also at the impact of public opinion on media.
Deadline for submissions: Manuscripts should be submitted by January 10, 2011, via the Mass Communication and Society online system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/mcas following the standard journal submission procedures. Authors should note in their cover letters that the submission is for the Community Structure Model symposium. Final publication will be in December 2011.
In addition, please send one hard copy of each submission to: Guest Editor John C. Pollock, Professor and Chair, Communication Studies Dept., The College of New Jersey, Ewing, NJ 08628; pollock@tcnj.edu; 609-771-2338

Diversity of journalism research works: multiple perspectives, possible dialogues

This edition of BJR is devoted to the diversity of approaches to journalism as a subject for study and a social practice, from a critical and analytical perspective. This edition intends to bring together works which can express critical thought regarding different forms of management, production, circulation and consumption of information, taking into consideration the impact of technologies on the production routines, the hybridization of styles and languages in the construction of narratives and the current reconfigurations of journalistic mediation.
