ZigZag Academy wins E-Learning Awards
The BBCWST Iran Team have been awarded Silver in the category ‘Best online or distance learning project’ at last night’s prestigious E-Learning Awards in London. The judges felt ZigZagAcademy "offered a fantastic collaboration in a difficult environment. With the Iranian media under restrict state control, new media has been spectacularly embraced as a way to circumvent censorship...ZigZagAcademy brings online learning modules into an interactive space that incorporates a blog, a forum, podcasts and social networking. The project promotes freedom of expression and widens the scope for media diversity in Iran through user participation." The award seeks to recognise those distance learning programmes which have made excellent use of online media and tools to facilitate learning, particularly those which employ a range of methods and media over many weeks or months of part-time study. Speaking after the ceremony, Project Manager Adrienne van Heteren said that it was a great evening for the BBC and a fantastic boost for the Iran Team. Adrienne reserved special praise for Project Director Mahmood Enayat, whose ‘creativity and perseverance saw the success of ZigZagAcademy through’.
